What is Restrict Feature in Instagram?

Now on Facebook, we are used to the term Block. Simply we block a person when we do not like their activities or comments and this term is common among us.

 Instagram also has facilities which allow you to block people you do not feel comfortable with. 

Another new feature is provided on Instagram called Restrict. This feature differs from the feature Block. Restricting someone on Instagram does mean that he will be unable to find you on Instagram. Rather he can find and even comment on your post but his comments will not be visible to others.

This sounds quite good as you can view the restricted persons’ activity and you have options to take steps like approval if needed. And you know that the restricted person will never know whether you have restricted him or not. Isn’t that amazing?

Now come to the process of restricting someone on Instagram. 

Step 1: To Your Profile

Firstly all you need is a sound internet connection in your mobile phone. Then

•  Open the Instagram app and navigate to your profile and tap on the search icon.
•  Then type the name of whom you want to restrict.

Step 2: The Profile You Want to Restrict

When you enter the person’s profile the general details will be visible on the screen. 

• You can find three black dots on the upper right side of your screen, tap on it.
• A new window will open on your screen where you can see the Restrict option along with others like Report, and Block.
• Tap on Restrict and the profile is now restricted.
• You do not need to unfollow the person to restrict it. 

Step 3: Managing Restricted List

Suppose you have been restricting people on Instagram and now you have a query about the number of people you have restricted. Instagram features will quench your curiosity thrust if you follow some simple steps.

• As usual, make sure your phone is connected and open Instagram and tap on your profile. When your profile will open you can see their black lines on the upper right corner of your screen, tap on that.
• A new window will open where you can find the option Settings, tap on it. Then tap on Privacy and then open the Restricted Account from the list. 
• After opening that option a list will be visible on your screen showing the people you had restricted previously.
• You can remove anyone you want from this list just tap on Unrestrict visible on the right side of the profile holder’s name.
• This action ensures that the person’s activities in your account will be visible not only to you but also to all the followers you two have.

Step 4: Restrict Directly from the Comment Section

Unfortunately, some people on social media have different tastes in language which might not seem comfortable to others.

•  In this case, if an Instagram user finds foul language or any bad comments done by a follower in his/her post he/she can immediately restrict that person without notifying the sender.
• If you find any foul comment or any comments that seem uncomfortable to you do a simple left swipe over that particular comment and you will get an option to Restrict. Tap on that to restrict the person.

Step 5: Approval or Removal of Comment

This feature does not cause permanent changes, so you can change the visibility of the comments left by the restricted person.

• If you want to approve a comment without removing the person from the Restricted List you will have to tap on the particular comment which you want to make visible. 
• After tapping you will get options, tap on Approve. This action will only show that particular comment and other comments from the same person will remain hidden.
• If you want to remove the comment, tap on the Delete option and you also can remove restrictions from the person by tapping on Approve and Unrestrict directly from the comment section. 
• Ignore it if you do not want to modify it.
