The VK monetisation thresholds are 1,250 new subscribers in a calendar month or 500,000 total subscribers, and they have applied since 14 May 2025. Missing one of those two numbers is only half of what gets communities cut. VKontakte added content conditions on the same date, so a community can clear the subscriber bar comfortably and still be removed for republishing other people’s material. Work out which condition you failed before you plan anything, because one of them repairs itself automatically and the other locks you out for three months.

The five conditions VK actually applies
VK publishes the full list for its partner programme. Here it is without the corporate wording.

All five apply at once. That is the detail people skip, and it is the reason so many owners went looking for a number they had missed when the number was never the problem.
Of the two audience numbers, only one is a real target
500,000 subscribers is not a goal. It is a description of a community you either already are or you are not. If you are sitting on 40,000 subscribers, that line has nothing useful to say to you this year or next, and building a strategy around it is how people waste twelve months.
1,250 new subscribers a month is the line that matters. It works out at roughly 42 a day. Plenty of ordinary communities clear it in a good month and miss it in a quiet one, and that is exactly the failure mode the rule creates: the test is monthly and it repeats forever, so a community that grew hard for three years and then settled into a comfortable plateau is now failing something it never had to pass before.
The two paths also demand completely different work. Reaching 1,250 a month means publishing things that travel beyond the people who already follow you, which in practice means clips and posts built to be shared. Sitting above 500,000 means holding attention you already own. Those are separate crafts and pretending otherwise is why so many recovery plans go nowhere.
The reach test catches more communities than the subscriber count does
Read the reach condition slowly, because almost everyone misreads it. VK asks that 30% of your subscribers view at least one piece of content of any type during the month. Once, in thirty days, on anything you posted.
That sounds generous until you look at what it is measured against. The denominator is your subscriber count. Every dormant account and every follower who signed up in 2016 and never came back is sitting in that denominator, quietly pulling the percentage down.
So here is the serious part, and I will say it flatly because it costs people real money. Inflating your subscriber number to reach 1,250 makes the reach condition harder to pass. You are adding people to the bottom of a fraction who will never view anything. A community that buys its way over the audience line one month tends to knock itself out on reach the month after, and then it is failing two conditions instead of one.
A community with a million subscribers can still be cut
Size protects nobody, and the structure of the rules explains why. The content condition sits alongside the audience condition as a separate requirement rather than underneath it. Clearing the audience line means you have satisfied one item out of five. VK was explicit when it announced the change, saying participation would be limited to communities producing original and quality content, and that criterion applies at every size.
This is what ended a whole species of VK community. For years the dominant format was the repost public: a wall of borrowed images and borrowed video, assembled with real taste but produced by nobody in particular. Under the old rules those communities monetised beautifully, because the old rules counted people. Under the current rules they cannot satisfy the content condition however many people they count. They are outside the programme now, and further growth does not bring them back.
What VK means when it says original
VK’s own wording is more useful than any guess about it. Original content reflects the author’s own style, viewpoint or approach. Copying someone else’s material does not qualify, and neither does reworking it without adding value of your own. Quality is assessed on execution, meaning the image and video quality you put out alongside writing that is correct and follows a logic. Presentation has to be good enough to draw a positive response from readers. Elsewhere VK says the check covers uniqueness, authorial approach, literacy and overall craft.
Turn that into four questions about your own wall:
- After ten posts, could a reader name the person behind this community?
- If you deleted everything you did not make yourself, how many posts a month would survive?
- Do your images and video look like they were made for your community, or do they still carry another platform’s watermark in the corner?
- Does the writing read as though a person sat down and wrote it on purpose?
VK says the formats it favours are video, clips, visual collections and posts that generate live comment threads, while adding that there is no universal recipe and that authors should test their own. That last admission is more honest than most platforms manage.
Getting back in depends entirely on which condition you failed
This is the answer you came for and it splits cleanly in two.
If you missed the numbers, your payouts pause. VK’s wording is that accrual stops when a community fails to reach the required indicators in the month following its connection to the programme, and that monetisation resumes as soon as the conditions are met again. There is no application to submit and no waiting period to serve. Climb back over 1,250 new subscribers or back over 30% reach and the payments restart on their own.
If you were disconnected over content, you wait. VK’s instruction is to revise your content strategy, make the changes and submit a fresh application three months from the date of disconnection. Applying sooner achieves nothing. Whatever you had already earned up to 14 May was still credited and can be withdrawn from the payouts dashboard at any time, so check that balance if you never collected it.
Where the money went for communities below the bar
Now the part where I am supposed to tell you the money has simply evaporated, that VK abandoned small communities and that you should pack up and move to Telegram. You saw that coming a mile off. It is not quite true. The revenue share moved, and several routes remain that do not care about your subscriber count at all.
- VK Donut. Open to any community. Readers support you with a subscription or a one off payment, and you give donors something the open wall does not get.
- VK AdBlogger. Connects you with brand integrations, so an advertiser pays you directly instead of a share of impressions being calculated for you.
- Direct placements. Selling posts to advertisers yourself, the oldest business model on VK and the one least disturbed by any of this.
- The Original Authors Fund. VK’s support programme for small and mid sized authors, which pays participants 30,000 roubles a month to develop a community and test new formats.
Look at the shape of that list. Every surviving route pays for a relationship with a named creator rather than for traffic in bulk. That is the same quality the new thresholds are testing for, which tells you fairly clearly where VK is heading and what you should be building if you want to be paid there.
One last practical note, and it matters more than anything above. Do not rebuild your community around the 1,250 figure by itself. A month of aggressive growth followed by a month of flat reach puts you straight back outside, and the content condition is still waiting there whatever your numbers do. Fix the wall first. The thresholds get much easier to hold when the posts are actually yours.
